Keyword Matrix
The Keyword Matrix is the foundation of your content project in iContentForge. It's a structured list of semantically related keywords, automatically generated by AI based on your project's niche and seed terms. This matrix ensures your content covers a topic comprehensively and builds a strong internal linking structure.

How the AI Generates the Matrix
When you create a project, you provide a primary niche (e.g., "indoor gardening") and optional seed keywords. Our AI then:
- Analyzes the Topic: Understands the core subject, related subtopics, and user intent.
- Expands Semantically: Discovers LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords, questions, and long-tail variations that are contextually relevant.
- Structures the Data: Organizes these keywords into a matrix, identifying primary, secondary, and supporting keyword clusters.
- Fetches SEO Metrics: Pulls estimated monthly search volume and keyword difficulty for each term.
This process creates a ready-to-use content blueprint, saving hours of manual keyword research.
For best results, provide 2-3 specific seed keywords (e.g., "hydroponic systems," "grow lights for plants") to guide the AI toward your exact focus area.
Understanding Keyword Metrics
Each keyword in your matrix comes with two critical SEO metrics:
| Metric | Description | Ideal Range (Guide) |
|---|---|---|
| Volume | The estimated average monthly search volume for this keyword. This data helps prioritize topics with higher traffic potential. | Varies by niche. Balance high-volume "head terms" with lower-volume, specific long-tail keywords. |
| Keyword Difficulty (KD) | A score (typically 0-100) representing the estimated competition to rank on the first page of Google for this term. In iContentForge, a lower score means harder competition. | 0-30: Lower difficulty (easier to rank) 31-70: Medium difficulty 71-100: Higher difficulty (harder to rank) |
Important: The Keyword Difficulty score in iContentForge is inverted compared to some other tools (like Ahrefs or SEMrush). Here, a score of 10 is harder to rank for than a score of 80. Always check the tooltip in the interface.
Managing Your Matrix
You have full control over the final list of keywords before article generation begins.
Adding Keywords Manually
To add a keyword not suggested by the AI:
- Navigate to your project's Keyword Matrix tab.
- Click the "+ Add Keyword" button.
- Enter the keyword phrase. The system will automatically fetch its Volume and KD score.
- Click Save. The keyword will be added with a status of
planned.
Deleting Keywords
To remove a keyword from the matrix:
- Find the keyword in the list.
- Click the trash can icon in the row.
- Confirm the deletion. This keyword will be excluded from all future article generation for this project.
Keyword Statuses
Each keyword progresses through different statuses as you work through your content plan:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
planned | The keyword is in the matrix and is awaiting article generation. This is the default state for all newly added or AI-generated keywords. |
ready | An article has been successfully generated for this keyword. You can review, edit, or schedule it for publishing. |
skipped | You have manually chosen to skip generating content for this keyword. This helps you curate the matrix without deleting terms. |
To change a keyword's status, use the dropdown menu in the "Status" column of the matrix table.
Changing a keyword's status from ready back to planned will not delete the generated article. The article will remain in your article list but will be marked as archived. You can always regenerate content for that keyword if needed.
