Keyword Discovery

The Keyword Discovery tool is a powerful AI-powered feature within iContentForge that helps you expand your content strategy by analyzing the competitive landscape and surfacing high-potential keywords. Instead of manually researching, you can input a seed keyword or a competitor's URL to generate a targeted list of keyword opportunities, complete with key metrics, and import them directly into your project's Keyword Matrix.

How to Use Keyword Discovery

You can access the Discover tool from within any project.

  1. Navigate to your desired Project.
  2. Click on the Keyword Matrix tab.
  3. Click the "Discover Keywords" button in the top-right corner.
  4. In the modal that appears, you have two input options:
    • Seed Keyword: Enter a broad or niche topic (e.g., "content marketing").
    • Competitor URL: Paste the URL of a blog post or website you want to analyze.
  5. Click "Discover Keywords". The AI will process your input and return a list of related keywords, typically within 30-60 seconds.
💡

For the most targeted results, use a specific competitor blog post URL related to your niche. The AI will analyze its content and backlink profile to find adjacent opportunities.

Understanding Keyword Metrics

Each discovered keyword comes with two essential SEO metrics to help you prioritize:

MetricDescriptionHow to Use It
Keyword Difficulty (KD)A score from 0-100 estimating how hard it is to rank on the first page of Google for this term. Lower is easier.Prioritize keywords with a lower KD score (e.g., 0-40) for quicker wins, especially for newer sites.
Search VolumeThe estimated average monthly search volume for the keyword in your target region.Balance volume with difficulty. High-volume, high-difficulty keywords may require more authority and comprehensive content.
ℹ️

These metrics are estimates provided by our integrated data partners. They are excellent for relative comparison and prioritization within your project. For absolute, campaign-critical numbers, consider cross-referencing with dedicated SEO tools.

Importing to Your Keyword Matrix

The primary goal of discovery is to populate your content plan. After reviewing the list:

  1. Select the checkboxes next to the keywords you want to save.
  2. Click the "Import X Keywords" button at the bottom of the modal.
  3. The selected keywords will be instantly added as new rows to your project's Keyword Matrix.

Once in the Keyword Matrix, you can assign these keywords to content clusters, add notes, and proceed to generate articles.

⚠️

Imported keywords start with a default "Priority" setting. Remember to review and organize them within your Keyword Matrix structure (e.g., assign to pillars or clusters) for an effective silo architecture before generating content.

Best Practices for Keyword Discovery

  • Start Broad, Then Niche Down: Begin with a core seed keyword to map the topic, then use more specific long-tail keywords or URLs to drill deeper.
  • Leverage Competitor Gaps: Use competitor URLs to find keywords they rank for but may not have covered comprehensively, revealing content gaps you can exploit.
  • Combine with Silo Radar: After importing, use the Silo Radar to visualize how these new keywords fit into your site's internal linking structure.
  • Batch Your Research: Perform multiple discovery sessions for different topic clusters and import all results at once to build a robust Keyword Matrix efficiently.
